General Metalith H2O FAQs

To get answers to the most frequently asked questions about our Metalith™ H2O flood control and erosion control barriers, please select one of the links below:

How do we know what height and thickness of the Metalith H2O barriers we will need?

The Metalith H2O flood barriers come in one standard size, 3-feet tall by 4-feet wide bins. Standard panels are 8-feet long. Our designers and engineers will work with interested Metalith H2O purchasers to specify custom flood barriers that are more ideally suited for a specific application. The Metalith H2O panel system is designed to build a flood fighting barrier of any length desired.

Are Metalith H2O flood barriers tested and certified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers?

Absolutely. The Metalith H2O flood protection barriers were tested at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

In late April and early May of 2007, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi conducted extensive testing on Infrastructure Defense technologies' Metalith H2O flood control barriers at their Waterways Experiment Station (WES).

The results were overwhelmingly positive.

As noted in the official USACE report, a 65-foot-long, 3-foot-high section of Metalith H2O barriers were subjected to 40 hours of wave action totaling approximately 72,000 waves.

The Metalith H2O proved able to withstand this severe testing with minimal, easily repairable damage. Total sand loss proved to be inconsequential.

In addition to wave testing, Metalith H2O was also tested for its ability to contain hydrostatic load. At a maximum head of 2.85 ft, underseepage was only 15.6 gallons / hour per foot of wall and this level has been severely curtailed since the initial testing. At the 1 foot level, the Metalith H2O barriers only allowed 3 gallons / hour per foot of wall.

A section of Metalith H2O was assembled in the wave tank at the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Waterways Experiment Station (WES) in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

This section of metalith H2O panels was exposed to both standing water and pounding wave action. Standing water test duration was 100 hours, with water heights of 12, 24, and ~34 inches. The wave testing lasted 40 hours. The Metalith H2O performed phenomenally well, resisting over 72,000 wave cycles with no deformation and minimal underseepage.

What is your average lead-time for Metalith H2O panels?

We can ship our standard Metalith H2O panel systems with 24 hours notice for the standard 3-foot tall, 4-foot wide, 8-foot long aluminum flood control panels.

top

What are your standard payment terms?

Our Metalith H2O standard payment terms are 2%, Net 10 days, or Net 30 days subject to credit approval. Ask about our Payment in Advance Discount Program!

top

Are the Metalith H2O flood control barriers manufactured in the United States?

Yes, the Metalith H2O flood fighting and erosion control barriers are manufactured in Belvidere, Illinois, just northwest of Chicago, just east of Rockford.

top

How long does it take to erect the Metalith H2O flood control barriers on site?

Inserting the corrosion resistant stainless steel pin connector into Metalith H2O side and cross panels
Inserting stainless steel pin
into Metalith H2O panels

Based on our own barrier wall erection projects and those of the U.S. military, a good rule of thumb is 6-8 linear feet can be erected, and filled, per man-hour, for a 3-foot tall wall. If sand is nearby, and a good Bobcat operator is available, the Metalith H2O panels can be erected 3-4 times faster than the number shown above.

Does Infrastructure Defense Technologies offer technical assistance to help end-users with problems?

We certainly do. Infrastructure Defense Technologies is staffed with both engineering personnel and individuals with decades of metal wall design experience. If you have a problem, give us a call at 1-800-379-1822 and we will be glad to help you with your problem.

top

Will they fit on military 463L pallets?

Absolutely! We can configure the Metalith H2O pallets to be able to be shipped on military 463L pallets or virtually any pallet. We can deliver Metalith H2O panels to an emergency stores warehouse or to a flood site just about any way our customers require them to be handled and shipped.

top

Who offers the fastest flood fighting barrier to erect?

Based on testing conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Infrastructure Defense Technologies’ Metalith H2O flood fighting barriers are a minimum of 2-3 times faster to erect than their nearest competitors and possibly much faster depending on the speed of a Bobcat operator. They are easily 20+ times faster to use than traditional sandbags.

top

What is the expected life of a Metalith H2O panel?

We expect the Metalith H2O panels to last up to 40 years!

top

What length of warranty comes with the Metalith H2O panels?

IDT provides a 20-year normal use warranty for all Metalith H2O panels.
