Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM)
The Association of State Floodplain Managers is an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness, warning and recovery. ASFPM has become a respected voice in floodplain management practice and policy in the United States because it represents the flood hazard specialists of local, state and federal government, the research community, the insurance industry, and the fields of engineering, hydrologic forecasting, emergency response, water resources, and others. Site contains good information on general flood information.

Floodplain Management Association (FMA)
The Floodplain Management Association is a non-profit educational association. It was established in 1990 to promote the reduction of flood losses and to encourage the protection and enhancement of natural floodplain values through the use of effective wetland management strategies and engineering technologies. Members include representatives of federal, state and local government agencies as well as private consulting and construction firms. Site contains an excellent flood focused Links section.

National Association of Flood and Stormwater Management Agencies (NAFSMA)
The National Association of Flood & Stormwater Management Agencies (NAFSMA) is an organization of public agencies whose function is the protection of lives, property and economic activity from the adverse impacts of storm and flood waters. NAFSMA’s mission is to advocate public policy, encourage technologies and conduct education programs that facilitate and enhance the achievement of the public service function of its members.

Northwest Regional Floodplain Managers Association (NORFMA)
Is a non-profit organization for regional networking and support on issues of environmental quality, economic sustainability, and scientific discovery on a watershed basis. The Association provides a channel for regional communication and cooperation in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia and Alaska.

Arizona Floodplain Management Association (AFMA)
The purpose and objective of AFMA is to provide a means of local representation on a statewide basis regarding policies and activities dealing with floodplain management within the State of Arizona. This includes promoting the common interest in flood hazard mitigation, enhancing cooperation between the various related private, local, state and federal agencies, and encouraging and ensuring new and innovative approaches to managing the state's floodplains. The membership of the Association is comprised of Floodplain Administrators in the State of Arizona, those employed by private consultants, and those employed by public agencies. Arkansas Floodplain Management Association (AFMA)
The Arkansas Floodplain Management Association is a not-for-profit organization whose membership is open to all persons involved in floodplain management and related disciplines in the State of Arkansas. The purpose of the Association is to promote the common interest in flood damage abatement, to enhance cooperation and to exchange information among the various related private organizations, individuals, local, state and federal agencies to encourage appropriate and effective approaches to managing the State's floodplains, and to educate the public about floodplain management.

Colorado Association of Stormwater & Floodplain Managers(CASFM)
The Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers' (CASFM) is an organization of professionals whose members are involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, stormwater management, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness, warning, and recovery. CASFM has grown to be a respected voice in floodplain management practice and policy in Colorado. CASFM represent the interests of flood hazard specialists from local and state government, consulting engineers, the research community, the insurance industry, and the fields of engineering, hydrologic forecasting, emergency response, water resources, planning, and others. Site contains good Links, information on stormwater quality, and training information.

Florida Floodplain Managers Association (FFMA)
A newly formed organization, the Florida chapter of the national Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM). The FFMA was formed to improve floodplain management in Florida by supporting comprehensive management of floodplains and related water resources. FFMA believes that through coordination and education, the public and private sectors can reduce loss of life and properties resulting from floods, preserve the natural and cultural values of floodplains, and avoid actions that increase flood hazards. The site is relatively new.

Georgia Association of Floodplain Management (GAFM)
GAFM represents over 130 floodplain management practitioners, including local, state and federal government and the private sector. The purpose of this newly formed organization is to serve as a unifying force for floodplain managers and other related professionals within the State of Georgia as well as serve as a support mechanism by providing training opportunities and technical information.

Illinois Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (IAFSM)
IAFSM was founded in 1986 by professionals interested in and responsible for floodplain and stormwater management in the State of Illinois. The IAFSM is a local chapter of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM). Our objectives are to: 1) Promote the common interest in floodplain and stormwater management, 2) Enhance cooperation among various local, state, and federal agencies, and 3) Encourage effective and innovative approaches to managing the State's floodplain and stormwater management systems. The IAFSM has recently implemented a statewide certification program for floodplain managers.

Indiana Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (INAFSM)
The Indiana Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management was founded in 1996 by professionals interested in and responsible for floodplain and stormwater management in the State of Indiana. INAFSM members include federal, state, and local agency staff, engineers, consultants, planners, elected officials, members of academia, students, and floodplain residents.

Kansas Association for Floodplain Management (KAFM)
Is an organization designed to promote the public awareness of floodplain issues in Kansas.

Kentucky Association of Mitigation Managers (KAMM)
The Kentucky Association of Mitigation Managers (KAMM) was formed in order to promote floodplain management and mitigation in Kentucky. Our members represent local floodplain coordinators, planning and zoning officials, engineers, surveyors, GIS specialists, hydrologists, and emergency managers. The purpose of KAMM is to provide a means of state and local floodplain managers to join with others regarding floodplain management policies and activities. Additionally, KAMM exists to advance the study, research, and exchange of information on the technical aspects of floodplain management to reduce flood damage within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. KAMM sponsors an annual conference to promote floodplain awareness and as a forum for local, state, and federal officials to educate the public. KAMM is a Chapter Member of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM).

Louisiana Floodplain Management Association (LFMA)
The Louisiana Floodplain Management Association serves as a forum for parish and municipal employees, state and federal officials, and the private sector to meet and share experiences, ideas, and solutions to common flooding problems. As a grassroots effort, they assist and support each other when confronted by flooding. Essentially, they have become an extended family who enjoy and look forward to seeing each other on a regular basis. As such, they are more than another professional organization. Site contains a good flood and FEMA related Links section.

Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers(MAFSM)
The Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers is organized to provide educational opportunities and dissemination of general and technical information to individuals concerned with sound floodplain management and to promote the public awareness of sound floodplain and stormwater management.

Michigan Stormwater-Floodplain Association (MSWFA)

Minnesota Association of Floodplain Managers (MNAFPM)
The Minnesota Association of Floodplain Managers (MNAFPM) was formed on March 14, 2002. The goal of the organization was to form a network of associates who could bring their ideas and experiences to a forum for people to share and learn from. The result of the Association is a network of floodplain managers who can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all aspects of floodplain management in the State of Minnesota. The Association includes: City and County Officials, Consulting Engineers and Surveyors, Bankers and Lenders, State Government: DNR, DEM, and DOT, Watershed Districts, FEMA, USCOE, USGS, NRCS, and Insurance Agents. Site includes a good floodplain management and emergency Links section.

Missouri Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association (MFSMA)
The Missouri Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association is a non-profit organization of professionals involved in floodplain and stormwater management within the State of Missouri. Membership in the association is comprised of local and state government officials, engineers, land surveyors, insurance agents, mortgage lenders, and other private industries or individuals engaged in the management of floodplains or stormwater. They have ~ 300 current members throughout Missouri. The association sponsors an annual conference as well as traveling seminars. They also produce a quarterly newsletter. The association provides an additional link between state / federal government agencies and the local community official or private company or individual. The conference and seminars are also great ways to network with others in the field. In addition, the executive board and legislative committee monitor proposed legislation and communicate with our state legislature when proposed legislation concerning stormwater or floodplain management issues arises.

Nebraska Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association (NEFSMA)
The NEFSMA’s goals are to 1. To promote public awareness of floodplain and stormwater management; 2. To promote the professional status of floodplain and stormwater management and secure all resulting benefits resulting; 3. To promote cooperation and information exchange between individuals and entities concerned with floodplain and stormwater management; 4: To keep individuals concerned with floodplain and stormwater management well informed through educational and professional seminars and to provide a method for dissemination of information, both general and technical.

New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management (NJAFM)
NJAFM is dedicated to reducing loss of life and property damage resulting from floods and promoting sound floodplain management at all levels of government.

New Mexico Floodplain Managers Association (NMFMA)
The New Mexico Floodplain Managers Association is a non-profit professional organization working to improve floodplain management and reduce the costs of floods to New Mexico residents and local and State government. Their membership is predominately community floodplain managers, but includes state and federal officials, consultants and members from academia. Most of their work is accomplished by the volunteered efforts of members. NMFMA receives support from the grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA through the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association (NYSFSMA)
NYSFSMA brings together New York State professionals to foster awareness, information exchange and cooperation in the floodplain and stormwater management fields.

North Carolina Association of Floodplain Managers (NCAFPM)
Assist the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management in theefforts to develop codes and standards to be submitted to the Department of Insurance for revising the floodplain development chapter in the state building code. Actively lobby the Building Code Council to adopt such revisions. Assist in communicating floodplain management efforts among various groups (Federal, State, County, City, Consultants, Engineers, etc).

Ohio Floodplain Management Association (OFMA)
The Ohio Floodplain Management Association (OFMA) is the leading resource for floodplain management professionals in Ohio. FMA is an organization dedicated to promoting sound and effective floodplain management and to providing training to floodplain managers. The organization was formed in 1995 to raise awareness about flood hazards and floodplain management. Since that time, OFMA has expanded its scope to offer educational opportunities, monitor local and national legislation affecting floodplain management, and provide a forum for communication among floodplain management professionals. OFMA is a State Chapter of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM) and a division of the Water Management Association of Ohio (WMAO). Membership is open to all persons actively interested in the floodplain functions and resources of the State of Ohio.

Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association (OFMA)
The Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association brings together people with a common interest in floodplain management. Members include concerned citizens, public employees and elected officials, engineers, planners, contractors, lenders, insurance agents, real estate professionals, students, corporate partners and local, state and federal agencies. Their objectives include promoting interest in flood damage abatement, improving cooperation among government agencies, and encouraging innovative approaches to managing Oklahoma's floodplains. In addition, they believe a unified membership can present one strong voice to communicate with the state legislature on flood-related issues. OFMA was organized in November 1990 and is a chapter of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM).

South Carolina Association for Hazard Mitigation (SCAHM)
The South Carolina Association For Hazard Mitigation (SCAHM) is a professional organization dedicated to educating our communities about mitigating hazards and loss prevention. Our members represent various professions, including but not limited to: building code enforcement officials and inspectors, company Presidents and Vice Presidents, emergency managers, engineers, floodplain managers, GIS technicians, hydrologists, planning and/or zoning officials, and project managers. The SCAHM sponsors an annual educational conference in the spring each year. Educational sessions on multiple types of hazards are presented during the annual educational conference. The SCAHM also sponsors four roundtable discussions per year in locations across the State of South Carolina, where those interested in hazard mitigation may attend to hear presentations on hazard-related topics and to discuss current issues. The SCAHM is a Chapter Member of the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM), the primary professional association of floodplain managers in the US.

Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA)
The Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) is the leading resource for floodplain management professionals in Texas. We work to build partnerships with federal, state and local agencies as well as other professional organizations and associations. TFMA supports comprehensive non-structural management of the state's floodplains and related water resources. We strive to educate the public about the risk of living in the floodplain, the need for flood insurance, and the need for hazard mitigation activities to break the cycle of rebuilding unwise development in our valuable waterways. Joining TFMA affords members the opportunity to earn "national" Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) status through the Texas chapter and to continue professional growth through training and educational opportunities.

Utah Floodplain and Stormwater Management Association (UFSMA)
The Utah Floodplain and Stormwater Association is an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, stormwater management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness. UFSMA has become a respected voice in floodplain management practice in Utah because it represents the flood hazard specialists of local, state and federal government, the research community, the insurance industry, and the fields of engineering, hydrologic forecasting, emergency response, water resources, and others. Each year UFSMA holds an annual conference on various floodplain and stormwater management issues.

Virginia Floodplain Management Association (VFMA)
The Virginia Floodplain Management Association (VFMA) is a group of professionals representing state and federal agencies, local government officials and private firms dedicated to expanding the application of proactive floodplain management in the Commonwealth of Virginia. VFMA provides easy access to information about state and federal guidelines and regulations and funding assistance to plan for avoiding flooding or for flood mitigation, response and recovery. VFMA also provides training and hosts the Certified Floodplain Manager Exam. Association provides newsletters and workshops offered around the state.

Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association (VLWA)
The Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association is organized and operated as a corporation within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code to conduct scientific and educational efforts to protect the quality and uses of Virginia Lakes and Watersheds.

Wisconsin Association for Floodplain, Stormwater, and Coastal Management (WAFSCM)
The Wisconsin Association for Floodplain, Stormwater, and Coastal Management promotes the common interest in floodplain, stormwater, and coastal management, to enhance cooperation between the various elated private, local, regional, state, and federal agencies; and encourages and ensures effective, new and innovate approaches to managing the state's floodplain, stormwater, and coastal systems. The organization was formed as an association in 2000 and currently has approximately 201 members in 2005. In 2004, the Association applied and was granted Chapter status by the national organization, Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM).
